President's Report

Hello NACE Family,

I was so excited to see fall come and the leaves change but then God turned on the snow machine! Gone was my annual field trip with the boys to Luray Caverns to see the leaves change and pick pumpkins. I’m sure they were secretly celebrating. My son also turned 13 at the end of October and in true planner fashion I went into planning the best football themed party ever! He vetoed EVERYTHING I picked out and squashed my creativity. Then I had to remember sometimes what is special and significant to others is the effort, the care and the love you put into something. He was just happy to have his family and friends together (and his strawberry shortcake!) We take so much for granted when we plan amazing events for our clients that we forget that those little touches are what our loved ones desire.

In this season of Thanksgiving let’s remember that it’s about the care and concern that we give each other and our clients. Giving can be as simple as holding the door open or sending a thank you note. Our gala committee has used that care and concern in creating an amazing gala to benefit the USO. I hope to see you there to start our season of thankfulness and giving!

In the Spirit of Giving,

Mary Alice Yeskey is the Director of Marketing at Charm City Cakes, a boutique Baltimore cake shop which shot to fame in 2006 as the setting for the Food Network's Ace of Cakes. The shop's owner and creative mastermind, Chef Duff Goldman, has been creating over-the-top and jaw-dropping cakes (on and off the air) since 2001. Ace of Cakes, which ran for ten seasons, was one of the highest rated shows in Food Network's history. Following the show's wrapping in November of 2010, Mary Alice transitioned from managing the day-to-day operations of the shop to her current position focusing on marketing and sales.

Originally from Gaithersburg, Maryland, Mary Alice lives in northeast Baltimore with her husband, Dave; their 11 month-old son, Spencer; and a slightly neurotic border collie. She holds a BA in English from the University of Maryland, College Park and an MA in Publication Design from the University of Baltimore.

Community Service

THE GALA IS COMING! THE GALA IS COMING! There’s still time to purchase tickets for our biggest fundraiser of the year! The annual Capital Style Gala not only supports the chapter’s Education Fund and the Foundation of NACE, but this year, we’re proud to support community non-profit partner Operation USO Care Package, as well. OUCP is one of the many programs the USO funds and supports in its mission to lift the spirits of America’s troops and their families. Please join us for the gala where you can bid on many exciting silent auction items to help us raise money for this great program.

Thank you to all of those who helped support last month’s fundraising drive benefiting the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Arts & Humanities program. Through your in-kind donations and funds, NACE provided items including painting canvases, papers, and paints to this program which seeks to give cancer patients, caregivers, and families a creative outlet during the treatment process.

And of course, be on the lookout for our December meeting announcement and info on our holiday gift drive!
